I am a 42 year old male 5'11 225 trying to loose 25 lbs, and have started a vegetarian diet..I am on my feet all day at work and exercise occasionally, is my calorie intake of 1500 a day healthy for me?Is eating a 1500 calorie a day vegetarian diet,(no meat, chjicken, poultry, watching sugar intake),healthy?
well do you know how much u eat before u start this diet? if u know how much calorie u burn and how much calorie from food that u eat before it will give u a rough estimate of how long it will take u to lose that 25 lb , vegetarian diet is nice but make sure u have enough protein cuz ur body need it , let me give u my diet example though i am 29 but ure only 42 ( in ur prime ) it should be that much different

before my diet i ate about 3000 - 3800 calorie a day ( mostly chocolate and stuff )

i was a server so i walk all day too

then i started my diet i ate 5 meals a day about 300 - 500 calorie per meal

so roughly about 2300 calorie intake a day BUT

i excercise everyday ( i used p90x ) and i have a calorie monitor

i burn about 1200 calorie a day ( thats what the watch says )

so roughly i only had about 1100 calorie a day in my body vs 3000 a day ( previous me )

i went from 235 to 157 right now in 6 1/2 month but i eat meat and such , so imagine

what it will do to u if u only at vegetable , u will lose 25 lbs in like 2 months

yes, vegetarian diets are healthy as long as you focus more on fruits and vegetables rather than dairy or starches. get your protein from beans, eggs, nuts and low fat dairy.
No. You need about 2000 calories. The best diet is weight watchers. You eat sensibly and exercise. They will work with you on a good vegetarian diet. If you diet, you also need a good multivitamin. Centrum is a good vitamin. You can do weightwatchers on line.Is eating a 1500 calorie a day vegetarian diet,(no meat, chjicken, poultry, watching sugar intake),healthy?
yes it is healthy, but make sure to replace the meats with other protein rich foods like nuts, beans and milk.
1500 calories is nowhere near enough.

And on a vegetarian diet, you have to be very careful that you're getting enough protein. You have to combine foods, because plant source proteins aren't "complete." For example, a grain and a legume make a complete protein. If you're still eating fish and eggs, and dairy products, that will make it much easier.

I would highly recommend that you google Tom Venuto and check out his "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" information. He has a free newsletter that you can sign up for, as well as an e-book you can purchase and download. He is a natural bodybuilder, and has lots of good information about how to figure out how many calories you need in a day, as well as strategies for losing body fat without sacrificing your muscles.

Good luck!
Depends on what you're eating. You need more than just calories. You need nutrients and protein and minerals, too.

People who are vegetarian as a lifestyle really have to pay attention to make sure they're eating a balanced diet. A LOT of plant sources have protein (broccoli, beans, nuts, quinoa, and others), so as long as you're getting plenty of that you're good on protein. The human body is EXCELLENT at recycling protein, and we really don't need anywhere near as much as the meat and dairy industries have led us to believe. You also have to avoid being a junk-food-atarian. There's a LOT of junky food products that have no meat, and avoiding meat alone won't help you much.

Cutting out sugar will do a lot for you. So will replacing white flower with wheat. Avoiding processed foods will do you the most good. Fruits and veggies are high in water content, so that's the best way to eat a sufficient VOLUME of food, but take in fewer calories.
Not really. Better than stuffing down McDonald's but not ideal for your daily routine.

Your workout a few times a week and your job is physical? You need 1800-2000cals divided into 5-6, 350cal meals, eating once every 2-3 hours. You also want at least 150grams of protein a day...and soy is not a good protein. I'd recommend whey protein shakes with 8oz skim milk (200cal/32grams of pro), at least 3/day since your vegan.
