Is it true that a vegetarian diet will slow down your aging?

I've heard that long practicing vegetarians don't look as old as they are. Any proof of this?Is it true that a vegetarian diet will slow down your aging?
Studies have linked meat, dairy and egg consumption to all the major cancers and heart disease, So I'm sure that that would extend the life span of a vegan significantly... I mean that doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out(I don't mean this towards you, or course.... I mean it towards anyone that doesn't believe that eating meat can lead to premature death)

Think about it... a lot of the major risk factors of heart disease can be avoided from living a vegan lifestyle. I don't see veggies raising LDL cholesterol( the bad kind), In fact alot of veggies boost HDL cholesterol(the good kind)... bad cholesterol comes from meat and animal products like milk and eggs... I am sorry if I didn't answer your question very well... the real reason I answered was to tell David S what an arrogant idiot he is :)... he must be one of those UGH I EAT MEAT.... ME MACHO CAVE MAN... ME LIKE-UMs TO KILL THINGS kinda guys... (No offense to meat eaters... really I didn't mean to insult you guys in any way, I just wanted to insult him... so everyone else(except David S) that eats meat, please forgive my rudeness... )
Doesn't make much sense to me. Vegetarians have less cholesterol although if they aren't vegans (vegans don't eat diary product, eggs etc anything produced by an animal)they can still get high cholesterol. Eating alot of veges are good to reduce bowel cancer etc because of the high fiber diet. But things like sun aging and free radicals still pose a problem. We all have a biological age I don't belive being a vegetarian is an anti aging solution but I guess it has some benefits. Although they often need to supplement their diet with Iron and protein etc.Is it true that a vegetarian diet will slow down your aging?
Vegetarians if they dont take too much junk food, definitely lead longer, healtheir lives than big meat eaters. Meat is bad for health. It decomposes in your stomach. Also, eating red meat gives rise to developing cancer and heart problems. Fish is ok though, it keeps skin and hair looking healthy.
The phytochemicals and antioxidants in fruits and veggies are believed to what is to help slow the degenertaion of cells.Vegetarian diets tend to be higher in fruits and veggies. Is it true that a vegetarian diet will slow down your aging?
Yes, a vegetarian diet will absolutley slow down the aging process. On the other hand, a vegan diet has been proven to be deficient of minerals, vitamins, nutrients, etc., and if adhered to long term can lead to serious health issues if you are not taking the right supplements. Unlike the vegan diet,(which can cause phycological problems as well - have you seen some of there posts?) a vegetarain diet can provide your body with everything it needs to thrive.
Not sure about looking younger but I guess the reason why vegetarian has a prolonged life is because compared to the usual American diet and lifestyle, vegetarianism is associated with a lower risk of developing heart disease, stroke, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, chronic bronchitis, gallstones and kidney stones, and colon cancer. People who follow a vegetarian diet rarely become obese or develop high blood cholesterol levels. For children and adults at risk of early heart disease, the low-fat and high-fiber vegetable and fruit content of vegetarian diets may help reduce blood cholesterol levels and the risk of heart disease.
no. sorry, but our GI tracts were made to digest meat, and our bodies are designed to require meat. vegetarians don't live longer. people that eat healthy (including meat, but with less crap in their diet) and take care of their health live longer.
