What do you think of people who feed their cats a vegetarian diet with the only protein is one egg a day?

The problem with feeding a cat vegetarian diet did not only stem from the cat owner's own chosen belief and lifestyle but also catapulted by the vegetarian/vegan pet food companies' claims of a healthy, balanced and nutritional cat food. These companies conduct so called scientific evaluation and play on the emotions of vegetarians/ vegans. They claim that their food is ecologically and environmentally friendly, issues that play a big part in the vegetarianism/veganism movements.

For someone who is a vegetarian/vegan themselves, they take the pet food's companies claim seriously and is often misled into thinking that it is perfectly alright to feed a vegetarian diet to their carnivorous pet cat.

Even the unreliable AAFCO gives their seal of approval to some of these vegetarian cat food in the market today. And vegetarian pet food company becomes even bolder in their advertisement, making full use of it. Some companies claim that their food fomulation is created with the nutrition recommendations made by AAFCO, stoping short on saying their food is approved.

So, for me, I do think that people who feed their cats a vegetarian diet is grossly misled and misinformed. What do you think of people who feed their cats a vegetarian diet with the only protein is one egg a day?
The should be charged with animal cruelty. Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they are designed for animal tissue and protein.

I have no problem with a person who wants to be vegetarian, but that is their decision and they should not force their views on a cat who has no say in the matter, and cannot survive on a vegetarian diet.

Their cat will likely die, and suffer greatly in doing so.
Ignorant at best, malicious at worst. Cats are obligate carnivores, unlike dogs. They cannot live on a vegetarian diet, as they are unable to access the nutrients they need that way. If one owns a strictly carnivorous animal such as a cat or a snake, one has to make the committment to feed it what it needs, not what you wish it could get by on. We can choose to be vegetarians or omnivores and do fine healthwise. Cats cannot. They are what they are. What do you think of people who feed their cats a vegetarian diet with the only protein is one egg a day?
Ignorant, unkind and unsafe.

You will cause health problems for your cat and possibly incur expensive vet bills in the process.

Cats are carnivores not omnivores so there is no choice involved, please think carefully and ensure your cat gets the diet that is correct and nutritionally balanced.
I feel they don't need to own cats - cats are MEAT eaters and one egg a day for protein is not the same as eating chicken, beef, lamb, etc.

They should get a pet that only eats vegetables - like a rabbit. The cat will live a very short painful life by being fed a vegen diet because the owner doesn't eat meat.

IMO that's like feeding your rabbit meat - because YOU eat it and think all animals should eat what you eat. What do you think of people who feed their cats a vegetarian diet with the only protein is one egg a day?
Ignorant people, who should not be allowed to have animals. The domestic cat is a prime example of an obligate carnivore, an obligate carnivore is an animal that by its genetic makeup MUST eat the tissue of other animals in order to thrive. Obligate carnivores may eat other foods, such as vegetables, grains, or fruit, but they must eat meat as the main source of their nutrients.
I think it is cruel. Cats are carnivores and need meat protein in their diet, more then what 1 egg a day will provide. It is one thing for people to choose to be vegetarian, but they should not force this onto their cat. If they don't like feeding it meat, or dry food with meat it in, then they shouldn't have cats.
It is not at all fine and I think anyone who says it is fine betrays that they have very little knowledge of feline biology, and perhaps think a cat is just like a human, or like a little dog.

Its not just about broad nutrient categories ,he issue is bio-availability to cats. and cats are not equipped to get the same benefit from plant based foods

and I agree that these companies are playing on the feelings of vegans so they are thrilled and think they can avoid feeding any meat and still have a healthy food for their cat. but really they are making their cats into experimental animals in an company's experiment to see how they will do longterm on a diet that is totally unnatural to their species and carries a lot of risks.
I think it makes them animal abusers. You cannot enforce your own beliefs onto an innocent animal and force them to eat the way you do. A cat is a carnivore and must eat meat to survive. Depriving them of that is abuse.
Cats are carnivore and need meat as main part of there diet. If people who are vegetarian don't want to feed there pets meat then they should have vegetarian animals like rabbits not cats. A veg diet is not a healthy diet for cats they need meat.
I think everyone here has already pretty much hit the nail on the head. I think people who do that are selfish and ignorant, I would think that it is common knowledge that cats are obligate carnivores and NEED meat in order to survive and have a chance at leading a healthy life. It's unfortunate and sad that some people chose to ignore what a cat naturally is and go down a path that is unhealthy for them just because of the owners personal beliefs about meat. Cats are not humans, their bodies and their needs are very different than ours or other animals, just because we can survive without meat doesn't mean they can.

Plus if someone is so against eating meat then why don't they get a pet that doesn't eat meat? That's another thing I don't understand. Rabbits are in many ways alot like cats when you keep them as house pets (I have a house rabbit myself) and they only eat vegetables and grassy hay. There are also many other wonderful animals out there as well that don't eat meat (guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, fish etc.), why these people don't get one of them instead of ruining a cats life, is beyond me.

To be honest, it really is a from of animal cruelty to me.
