Is a vegetarian diet better than a omnivorous diet?

I often hear arguments from both sides that one is better than the other, and usually it is for the same reasons, do you think one is better than the other? Or is it a sham, both diets can balance. Is a vegetarian diet better than a omnivorous diet?
Food is food.....

Uou eat good things you'll be healthy. You eat rubbish, you won't be healthy.

As long as a diet contains nutrients, vitamins, protein, carbohydrate etc, there's really no 'bad' or 'good' food.

All in balance.
A poorly balanced vegetarian diet is worse then a well balanced omnivorous diet whereas a well balanced vegetarian diet is better then an omnivorous diet of fast foot..

I weight train and would have to eat a ridiculous amount of calories to get enough protein in a day going vegetarian. I would be obese. I really think the vegetarian diet can only work for certain people, particularly really petite small framed women with lower protein needs. I work a warehouse job that require lifting 75 lb boxes most of the day. Losing muscle mass is NOT an option. The human body only uses plant proteins at an efficiency rating of about 70-80% while it uses most animal proteins at around 100%. I'd have to eat about 2,000 calories in just tofu to reach the protein benefit in 550 calories worth of chicken breast. That's taking into account the 30% digestion efficiency difference..Is a vegetarian diet better than a omnivorous diet?
if they have sense, vegetarians mostly choose to not eat animals because they don't want to kill them not to be healthier. Any good diet needs to have variety. the most critical pert of being a vego is u HAVE get iron otherwise you get a disease like anemia there are many positives from eating lean ,red especially, meat. If you are so worried about the animals then opt for an organic or free range animal product.

it's expensive but if u care than its a must.

g-luck
It all depends. It you eat a very balanced diets, with a mix of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, protein, and all the vitamins and nutrients you need, then it can be healthy than an omnivorous diet. And if you eat total crap, it won't be.Is a vegetarian diet better than a omnivorous diet?
Diet isn't as important as staying active. Vegetarians and Omnivores alike can be fat and lazy, or mobile and active.
i think that vegetarian is so much better !!!! you can still eat protien from lentills, toufu and grains but you dont murder for it :)

GO VEGETARIAN !!!!!!!!!!!
People who are Seventh Day Adventists live about 10 years longer then the general population, most of them are vegetarians.
both can be healthy

both can be unhealthy

moderation is key
both have their benefits. you can get protein from food like tofu :)
Good question! I was just wondering that as well. I can't wait to see what others will have to say.
