Should prisoners be fed a vegetarian diet to make them less violent?

No because 1) the science behind the suggestion is unproven at best,

2) surplus meat for prisons is actually cheaper and can be frozen indefinitely. Fruits and vegetables cannot.

3) "Feminization of the male gender" suggest the female sex is weaker. Not true at all.



I thought vegetarians for moral reasons are so because they are compassionate towards living things especially animals and don't want to force their beliefs on others. Doesn't this make a hypocrite of the one who suggested it?Should prisoners be fed a vegetarian diet to make them less violent?
I have been a complete vegetarian for over 4 years now, and I am only 15 years old. While I do feel better as a vegetarian, it really hasn't changed my behavior (although I am not a violent person). Meat doesn't have a high or even noticeable amount of testosterone in it (even though it does have trace amounts), so it wouldn't even affect the violence level of a person. Also, men aren't the only people that are bad. Women commit violent acts. And, one more thing. Both men and women have testosterone, just as both men and women both have estrogen.
if a person is vegetarian and must go to jail...they are listed as a trouble maker...why?what do they do with a diabetic?certain allergies?



a friend of mine had to get a deferred sentence due to this strange treatment because he is vegetarian and the eating of meat and dairy products would put him into the hospital....the throwing up and diarrhea could easily put a person into ICU or worse...



this is a health issue ....in jail they will be forced to eat dead animal flesh, dairy and other milk products which in turn will cause serious health and mental issues...



why is eating a normal healthy vegetarian diet seen as a wrong thing? and such a diet is both cheaper and easier to prepare....



the cost of dead animal flesh to feed the inmate population is astronomical!!



a prison farm can produce it own vegetables...



why is the consumption of dead animal flesh thought of as a good thing?? how can such a violent type of eating not contribute to a persons bad behavior??









an example...many people keep iguanas as pets, these reptiles are herbivores/vegetarians...



there is a warning of their care "do not fed them meat" it will make them violent and change them permanently...makes them dangerous and they are no longer a nice pet...they become dangerous...



that is from meat....



what happens to the farm dog that gets a chicken or a sheep...they turn and must be put down because they are no longer safe around the stock....Should prisoners be fed a vegetarian diet to make them less violent?
I think it would make them more violent- a lot of freedom is already being taken away being locked up etc, so not even having a free choice re: food might make people feel a bit more out of control.



Also, an all vege diet would mean fresh vegies and fruit all the time, which is both more expensive and more time expensive to prepare.



Plus, if you have murdered someone, I think being a vego to boycott the meat industry wouldn't be high on your moral compass.



Interesting thought though.



Rather than vegies, perhaps like, yoga or something would mellow those gangstas out!

I hear you. Modern society does very little to encourage masculinity in men.



In all honesty though, their is way more fat in meat than testosterone. Eating a lot of meat will cause obesity before it make you violent.
Do you have any actual scientific evidence that a vegetarian diet makes people less violent?



And not all prisoners are convicted of crimes of violence.



Prison food tends to be crap, so any improvement would be a good idea
If they have a violent mind I think they will be violent regardless.

Women are violent too and women eat meat too
i would think that would piss them off more.,..although since the price of food has gone up food in prison is problem...they tend to like prepackaged stuff ..salads n veggies are expensive..
There is no connection between violent behavior and eating meat.
as a former inmate - You would be shanked quicker than spit if you even suggested that on the inside
it might be a good idea because it's cheaper, doubt there would be any effect on violence.
