Can you make a dog a vegetarian? Can dogs be fed a vegetarian diet?
well my search for the village idiot did not take long.
you do realize dogs are carnivorous right?! they eat meat!
A bordercollie that set a record for longevity, living to 27 was raised on a vegetarian diet. However, a cattle dog that set another record for longevity, living to 25 or 26 was raised on strickly meat. I think it was kangaroo and wallaby meat, or wallaby and rabbit, something like that.
Dogs are omnivores like people. They like flesh as well as plant matter and grains. This kind of thing is debated but obviously it can be done when taken into account their nutritional needs and the way their digestion works. If they could get everything the needed from sources other than meat and prepared in such a way that they could absorb it, they yes. It wouldn't be an easy task though. Can dogs be fed a vegetarian diet?
Don't force your -choice- to be a vegetarian on your dog. A dog is primarily a carnivore. Sure, it can eat some plant matter, but it still -needs- some meat in its diet to supply specific nutrients.
You can chose to be vegetarian, but your dog cannot. don't force him to eat an unhealthy and unnatural diet that his body is no designed for.
Dogs are carnivorous , it would be mean to force a dog to eat only vegetables and i have to say also kinda stupid and pointless . can dogs eat vegetables ? sure i don't see why not , but to try to feed them only vegetables 'no way' .Can dogs be fed a vegetarian diet?
Yes, they make vegetarian diets for dogs but dogs are CARNIVORES! They eat meat. If you don't want to eat meat that's fine but that is really unhealthy for your dog. If you want a vegetarian pet get a tortoise.
why would you want to feed an inappropriate diet to a carnivore?
Dogs need meat.. their bodies are not designed to digest vegetation properly. they get little to no nutrition from veggies. they evovled to get the nutrients they need from meat
It can and is being done. It isn't cheap or easy. You can actually buy dog foods that meet AAFCO standards that are vegetarian.
here's a wild thought: research research RESEARCH! but I doubt it as dogs are connivers.
Not if you care about the dog's health.
