My mom just got diagnosed 3 days ago and her blood sugar is also very high. We have been measuring for three days and the glucometer has constantly shown 19.7. She has started taking care of her diet and we are giving her less than half table spoon of sugar. She is consuming less carbs and more proteins. Please let me know if there is anything else we can add to her diet to lower her blood sugar. What should be right kind of vegetarian diet for a diabetic who just got diagnosed with 55% sugar in urine?
Hi Prink, its good to know your helping your Mom with her diet. A vegetarian diet is highly recommended for a diabetic patient as it contains more fiber then a non-veg diet. Fibre actually slows down the body's dispensation of carbohydrates, which can assist your mom in keeping a stabilized blood sugar levels.
A vegan diet is plant-based and consists of vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes. In addition, nuts (eg, almonds), viscous fibers (eg, fibers from oats and barley), soy proteins, and plant sterols, which may be part of the vegetarian diet.
Hope this helps

i think that if her blood sugars are that high she should be taking insulin, orally or injected.
because with blood sugars that high she will be ketonic which is not good, because ketones are natural solvents so they will start destroying capillary arteries, and your eyes bloodflow is from capillary arteries, so id say cut as much sugar and complex sugar (carbohydrate) as possible or start taking insulin. What should be right kind of vegetarian diet for a diabetic who just got diagnosed with 55% sugar in urine?
in addition - exercise (30minutes a day of walking would do)
if she's overweight - she should lose some, it will help a lot.
