I have been feeding my cat non-meat products and it has gotten sick, but I believe it should be illegal for humans and pets to eat meat. Eating meat is cruel.
Is their any kind of vegetarian food I can feed my cat that won't make it sick? What can I feed my cat for a Vegetarian diet?
DO NOT FORCE YOUR PERSONAL VALUES ON A PET!!! Cats are CARNIVORES and to treat them as anything but is cruel. There is some healthy non-meat based things you can give them but you need to remember that it is a CAT.
If you are that set on forcing something that is not natural on the poor thing then take the time to talk to your vet and they can provide a proper diet that might make you happy.
EDIT: there is no "legitimate alternative" you have a carnivore for a pet, plain and simple. Find the poor thing a good home and if you really want a pet get something that is a vegetarian.
Cats are not and never have been vegetarians, and neither are dogs. Even if you believe it SHOULD be illegal to eat meat, It IS illegal to abuse your animal and that includes not feeding it properly. Nature dictates that animals sometimes eat other animals. Do you think when a lion eats a zebra there's something wrong with that? If you can't handle giving your cat the some proper nutrition you should send it to a rescue where someone who will feed it correctly can take it.What can I feed my cat for a Vegetarian diet?
I tell what is cruel, feeding an animal a diet that it is not meant to have and continuing that diet despite the animal getting sick. The digestive system of a cat is designed to get needed nutrients from meat, cats lack the enzymes for a vegan diet.
Humans are omnivores that is why we can live off a vegetarian diet, Cats are not human and have different nutritional needs. Cats are carnivores, *not* omnivores or herbivores and that means Cats need meat for a healthy diet.
It is one thing to live a lifestyle that suits you, but as a pet owner it is your responsibility to feed your cat a diet that is natural for your Cat's physiology.
There are pets you can get that are herbivores if you have problem with meat.
Nope. And seriously don't you think starving your own cat to death is far more cruel than feeding it meat byproducts from animals that have already been killed by others?
Cats bodies and digestive systems are designed to process meat, not vegetables. I don't know if they're entirely carnivores in the wild since they will nibble on some grasses, etc but basically they need meat to survive. Unlike people they can NOT stay healthy on a vegetarian diet, it just doesn't provide the correct type or balance of nutrients for them.
Either give the cat a normal/meat-based diet or give it away so you don't have to deal with the ethical issues and it doesn't have to suffer from your actions. What can I feed my cat for a Vegetarian diet?
Cats are carnivores. Meaning, they need meat to survive. I agree that eating meat is cruel, but only for those who have a choice in it; if eating meat is the only way to survive, then the animal realizes this- it's their instincts. Same with humans. But the difference between the two is that humans DO have another choice; they no longer need to eat meat to survive, because of all the alternative supplements.
But, yeah. If you don't give your cat meat, it will get really sick. If you want to see if there's really any way to take meat from it's diet, then go to a vet; but truthfully? Without the meat or the nutrients cats receive from it, your cat will probably die. So at least feed it meat until you figure out a good solution.
Just because you're a vegetarian does NOT mean your cat has to be one. Actually, a cat cannot physically be a vegetarian without health issues. Your cat will die or become gravely ill. Don't do it. Your cat has no opinions on vegetarianism because it is a CAT. Spare your poor kitty a sickly, miserable life and feed it regular cat food. Stay away from Whiskas if you want your cat to be healthy because it's fattening.
Please take this into consideration.
NO - cats NEED meat - whether you like the idea or not. There are certain things in meat (beef, chicken, lamb, etc) that cannot be found in vegetables. Taurine is one very important thing a cat must have or it will get liver disease and go blind. Taurine is only found in meat.
Feed your cat a high quality canned and dry food diet. Our cats also get raw beef or chicken a few times a week.
If you don't like the idea of feeding your cat meat, then rehome him now to someone that will feed him a proper diet and get yourself a "vegetarian" pet like a hamster or rabbit.
Dear Chilly,
STOP. Cats are carnivores. They are not meant to be vegans. They need meat and since your cat has been ill because of your human beliefs this can be considered animal abuse. I respect you view on the meat deal, and if you would like a pet that is vegan may I suggest birds or some type of reptile in the vegan feeding area. I hope this is of some help to you and even though you do not believe in meat your cat needs the protein and other essential nutrients found in meat to survive.
You are an idiot who shouldn't have a cat. Cats are carnivores. The reason your cat is sick is because you are feeding it the wrong diet. That is the cruelty here, not the meat eaten by an animal that is a meat eater. Take it to a vet and they'll tell you that as well.
Feed the damn cat on cat food, not human food. It is not a human, it is a cat. You, as a human, have a choice. Fine. Your cat does not have a choice. Feed it cat food,
If you wanted a vegetarian animal you should have got a rabbit, guinea pig or hamster.
If I knew you in real life, I'd report you to the RSPCA and I'd take the cat off you myself.
Don't be ridiculous, Cat's are naturally CARNIVORES. They are programmed to eat meat. How would you like it if someone forced you to eat meat? Yeah, don't make your cat eat vegetarian food, that's what's cruel. I don't mean to sound harsh but cats naturally eat other animals, like lions hunt. It's not cruel.
No offense, but if you think eating meat is cruel, you shouldn't have gotten an obligate carnivore as a pet. Cats NEED meat in their diet to survive. Not getting enough of it will cause a deficiency in taurine, among other things. Cats fed a diet deficient in meat will develop heart problems and blindness, and they will die.

Please keep your cat on a diet that's appropriate for her. Your concern for animals should start with the well-being of the pet.
If you want your cat to live, it needs meat. If it does not get the proper diet, the cat will suffer greatly and die. I'm sure you don't want this for your cat. Wellness is a very good canned cat food for cats and will keep it very healthy.
* If you want to give your cat some "greens", buy your cat some catgrass that it can munch on occasionally, and NOT to be given as its sole source of food. It helps to prevent hairballs and is a nice treat.
** It's best if you do find your cat another home (with owners who will feed it meat) so it can live a healthy life. There is no legitimate alternative you can give you cat with the hope of it surviving. So, you might consider a bird or some other nonmeat-eating animal.

cats are natural carnivores, so they have to eat meat to survive. Eating meat is not cruel, making your cat sick is. Looks like you need to find it a new home. Sorry, but it's true.
I hope you are trolling.
Your cat needs meat in its diet period. She will go blind and slowly die if you don't feed her an appropriate meat based diet.
search you can find many food in local shop.
its the circle expectially FOR a cat. Give it anouther home because thats pure cruelty to expect a cat not to eat meat.
