Im a vegetarian, and Im 13. Im really looking for good sources of protein and fiber because Ive been getting sick a lot lately, due to a weakened immune system, from not eating meat. Does anyone recommend a cheap, not entirely bad tasting food that has a lot of protein and/or fiber?
Besides tofu(:Vegetarian diet?
Hm, you can always try those fake meat stuff. They come in burgers, hot dogs, etc. You can try Boca products and Morning Star.
Although a better way is to eat beans. You can usually get them from a can, or get them as fresh produce and use them in recipes. Just google some recipes where beans are abundant. Good luck!
PS- beware of the fake meat stuff. They are really high in sodium.
Nuts, leafy greens, whole grains, fibre-enriched bread, sprouted grains... and more nuts! (I really like nuts) Oats for breaky, and wholegrain rice and pasta...
And if thats STILL not enough - I take two multivitamins every morning. :)Vegetarian diet?
Soy milk, Hemp, Hummus(chickpea puree), yogurt, tempeh, miso, all beans and lentils, and nuts, seeds and nut milks and butters...I would see a nutritionist, there are certain things you need to know if you want to be vegetarian, such as protein complementary. If you want to feel great, then it is best to avoid junk food even if it is meat free, that doesn't make it healthy.
PS: tofu can be really tasty if it is cooked properly and marinated, but if you don't like it, steamed soy beans with hot sauce are also good (edema-me).
There are two kinds of proteins... complete proteins and incomplete proteins. Complete proteins are only in animal products, like meat, but they are also in dairy products so if you're fine with eating dairy then that is a way to go. Veggies, legumes (beans), nuts, some fruits and whole grains are all incomplete proteins, BUT if you combine two incomplete proteins, you can make a complete protein WITHOUT any animal products. The best combination of a complete protein is legumes and whole grains. (Ex: peanut butter sandwich, bean burrito, hummus and pita bread, a muffin with nuts on it/in it, etc. Good luck and hope you feel better!! ;DVegetarian diet?
EGGS - preferably FREE RANGE EGGS - less cruelty than battery hen eggs...
eat five fruits a day - you should eat that regardless of meat or no meat!
work out exactly how much protein you need.
Spinach, beans, grains, tofu, soy milk.
here is a lonk that tells you how much protein, you should eat and where you get it!

nuts and oats are great for those two.
