I'm a vegetarian and want to really start watching what I eat and try to lose some weight (5-10 lbs.) Any suggestions for how to cut down on carbs, feel full, and be healthier? I eat fish, but no other meatVegetarian Diet?
They there...
First cut out any fried foods! Up your veggie and fruit intake and if possible cut out some dairy (this will really help you loose the weight). Try eating more of your veggies raw (that will make a big difference too).
My first suggestion is that you stop calling yourself a vegetarian if you're going to continue eating fish. Vegetarians do not eat fish, and you may confuse people if you spread this misinformation.
As far as your diet is concerned, use common sense. Eat your fruits and veggies, especially your veggies, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and get lots of sleep (at least 8 continuous hours). Also, carbs are not bad for you, all vegetables are carbs. Some carbs are just better than others.
Without getting into a severely regimented diet program, here are a few tips:
Make sure to eat breakfast. Eating breakfast turns on your metabolism and tells your body to start burning calories. Several studies have shown that lean people eat breakfast more often than overweight people.
When you make your plate, fill half of it with vegetables. Vegetables are naturally low in fat and calories, and high in fiber, helping you feel sated.
Drink a full (8-16oz) glass of water before your meal. This will help you feel full and keep you from over eating.
Eat healthy snacks throughout the day. This keeps your metabolism going, and keeps you from feeling hungry when you're cutting your calorie intake. A hand full of walnuts or some dried fruit are good choices.
Cut out as many extra calories as you can. Ask for sauces and dressings "on the side", and use them sparingly.
Choose an exercise that you enjoy... even if it doesn't burn as many calories. If you don't like running, you won't stick with it. Do something that you like and will be more likely to continue.

Yes i agree, you are not a vegetarian. if you eat meat of any sort...including fish, you are not vegetarian. and about they weight thing...cut down on carbs and eat more veggies.
Actually, JR is misinformed. You are a vegetarian just like all of the great cultures and their millions and millions of people that have been vegetarians for CENTURIES. Most of them . . . Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Okinawan, etc. include some fish, poultry, seafood or a combination of all three in their diet.
They consider anyone a vegetarian . . . what JR is talking about the "strict" vegetarians. . . but those only really exist when the diet is part and paarcel of a spiritual path rather than a fad, or political agenda. Most of the strict vegetarians on here are "vegetarians of convenience".
You will want to Google "Flexitarian Diets" and check out the recipes. They are excellent for losing weight . .. dont' forget exercise too.Vegetarian Diet?
like the two Correct vegetarians,
fish is meat, vegetarians don't eat meat including fish
pesca? pescotarians (spelling?) eat fish as their only meat source
eat Good carbs vs the bad
eat brown rice, whole grains, veggies, oats, etc...
leave the sugar, sodas, white bread, white flour, etc..alone!
drink alot of water, most americans confuse hunger and thirst, without knowing (their body is thirsty, not necessarily feeling thristy)
be sure to get enough vitamins and exercise
eat enough calories to keep losing or you will stablize your weight
don't be afraid of healthy fats like flax, olive oil, avacado, nuts, seeds, etc.
Unless you're planning on stopping eating fish, you should take this to the regular food section since this is for vegetarians.
My suggestion for anyone is to eat more fruits and vegetables and less processed everything else.
