I'm a 16-year-old female and have been vegetarian for a couple of months. Am I stunting my growth? Since this is the age for growing.
Any tips?Does a vegetarian diet stunt your growth?
Certainly not. Your growth is genetically determined. Your spiritual growth and ethical consciousness are definitely growing just fine by being vegetarian. And good on you for doing it.

YES! -if you're not getting ALL the nutrients you need. MOst likely youll only stunt your growth from extreme malnurishment or drug abuse etc.
ask a professional what nutrients you need 1st- then figure out what you can eat to get ALL the nutrients you need.
-you may or maynot be able to do this with a vegitarian diet.
Real food is better than suppliments.
If you are worried about animal abuse, envirorment, or food quality then you need to research the companies you are buying your foods, and products from.
find "humane" farmers @
www.certifiedhumane.com
support local farms, and growers, buy organic at farmers market.
eat organic soy products, regular soy has high pesticides, don't eat frozen "vegitarian" foods, or any other crap in a box.Does a vegetarian diet stunt your growth?
Please dont fall into this trap of misinformation. Meat for the most part is unhealthy. It is difficult to digest, it contains saturated fats, and all the hormones and chemicals fed to the poor animals during their lives. You have given yourself a gift. As long as you watch what you are eating and get plenty of iron and other nutrients, your growth, and everything else will be just fine.
I think that as long as you are getting all the nutrients you need there is no reason to think that you are stunting your growth at all. If you are worried about your diet than I would recommend seeing a nutritionist/dietitian.Does a vegetarian diet stunt your growth?
No. You will be just fine. As a matter of fact, as long as your vegetarian diet is balanced with most protein coming from grains and greens, you should be fine. I had many benefits when I turned vegetarian.
i'd like to know since when are vegetables bad for you?
when did this occur? please explain to me why a diet rich in vegetables is going to hurt you?
??????
No, it doesn't! Bill Walton is a very tall and large former NBA basketball star, and he's been vegetarian for most of his life!
Look at all the Herbivore animals, they're huge. Giraffes are the tallest mammals.
:-)
Not many girls are still growing at 16 but if you get enough of all the right nutrients it won't stunt it.
It doesn't stunt your growth as long as you get your required nutrients. Good for you thinking and acting for yourself!
