I鈥檝e heard that tofu takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it with; so I was wondering if you could cook tofu with bouillon, would it taste like Chicken or Beef? If you did, would eating it be contrary to a vegetarian diet?Is tofu cooked with bouillon conducive to a vegetarian diet?
bouillon is basically powdered meat, so by putting it on tofu or anything, you would be violating the vegetarian diet.
Cook it with vegetable broth and you will still maintain a vegetarian dish. Anytime I have seen a dish/soup that incorporates the use of a meat bouillion, it is automatically called non-vegetarian.
BTW, try soft tofu (uncooked) with lemon, green onion (chopped), ginger (shredded) and soy sauce. That is the true Japanese way to eat it! I didn't even know that you could cook tofu cooked until I was much older. Is tofu cooked with bouillon conducive to a vegetarian diet?
he is right i think, but there is vegetable flavored bullion that you could use as to not go off a veggie diet
Go on the safe side and use a vegetable bouillon. Chicken and beef bouillon are made with animal derivatives, and are not vegetarian. Better yet, just saute' your soft tofu with a veggie medley and avoid all that salt.Is tofu cooked with bouillon conducive to a vegetarian diet?
That's a good idea, however, as was already stated you can't use an animal derived bouillon.
Uh, yeah!!! However there is such a thing as veggie bullion.
You can get vegetarian powered soup mix that is flavored to resemble beef or chicken. I just use soy sauce to make flavor on my tofu. It just needs enough salty-ness to make it taste like "more than nothing..."
This is the best boullion I have found - try the Low Sodium (cubes) version

If you're a strict vegetarian, you probably would not eat tofu cooked with bouillon. I sure wouldn't. Some vegetarians will look the other way when it comes to chicken or beef "juice" in their food.
