Vegetarians - do you try to feed your cat or dog a vegetarian diet as well?

I heard a story a while back where this woman had her cats taken by animal rescue and one of the things she was doing was only feeding her cats rice because she was a vegetarian and she wanted her cats to be also.

Is there a healthy way to do this? Does anyone here do it?Vegetarians - do you try to feed your cat or dog a vegetarian diet as well?
A dog can eat a vegetarian diet because they are naturally omnivores. Cats, however, are naturally carnivores and should eat meat. They can eat a vegetarian diet if it is heavily supplemented. That being said, I don't think feeding a cat a vegetarian diet is something someone who is concerned with animal welfare should be doing. If someone is uncomfortable with feeding their cats meat, they should reconsider adopting cats in the first place.
There are vegetarian cat food products in the market but they are very rare and hard to find in stores.

In Australia, there is a company called http://www.veganpet.com.au, that sells vegan cat food.

In Italy, you have AMI vegan pet food, which is also available in the USA and some other countries.

In the USA, you have a few other companies that sell vegan cat food.

It is not impossible to feed a cat vegetarian pet food that is nutritionally balanced.

Seriously, my cats still prefer to eat meat. The problem is, I had no easy or cost effective way to feed them meat that was healthy because the meat in pet food is of extremely low grade.

I used to feed my cats the Australian vegan pet food but the shipping got too expensive for me to handle because I had them shipped to Singapore. The shipping alone costs more than the pet food.Vegetarians - do you try to feed your cat or dog a vegetarian diet as well?
Just because they own a domesticated dog or cat does not mean dogs and cats have ''evolved'' to eat whatever they give them. A dog's digestive tract is still the same as that of a wolf or a coyote. A cat has as the same digestive tract of a lion or tiger.. It's a dog for Christ's sake!! Wolves hunt. Cougars hunt. Wolves do eat meat, and dogs eat meat too. This is basic biology and physiology and people like them are going against the natural process of things. What do they think wolves, coyotes, foxes, etc. eat?! Do they think they have vegetable gardens in their back yards and are harvesting potatoes, tomatoes, and lentils? Do they think they own homes, visit opera shows, and have car notes? People them need to get a life and an education.
A non meat diet will seriously harm cats, and dogs will eat a mixed diet but also need meat for their healths' sake. Vegetarians should feed all animals according to the needs of the particular species not according to their own likes and dislikes, otherwise it amounts to animal cruelty. Anyway, most vegetarians that I have met still wear leather shoes!Vegetarians - do you try to feed your cat or dog a vegetarian diet as well?
yes, vegan catfood and dogfood exist nowadays (even though they haven't been popular yet).

Cats require taurine, which is normally found only in meat, but most catfood has synthetic taurine anyway, since the meat is cooked at such a high temperature that it destroys the taurine.

Dogs are scavengers - they will eat anything that has protein, fat, carbs, vitamins, minerals, or water. Vegan or not.
I know a lot of vegetarians who serve their dogs vegetarian foods because dogs can sustain on a vegetarian diet. As for me I have a cat and I have to feed him meat because cats are naturally carnivores and unlike dogs can not be trained to eat a plant based diet.
I'm vegan and I live with a cat. I feed her the high-quality meat-based cat foods (usually from Wellness) because as a cat, she needs meat. She has also shown zero interest in my food, unlike her predecessor (who lived to almost 19).
Cats are strict carnivores, they cannot be fed a vegetarian diet. A dogs diet will be at least 70% meat, a vegetarian diet is not humane.
cats need Taurine which is found in flesh so it was wrong for her to feed them no flesh and right for animal control to take them.

many vegans feed their dogs vegan although it is not widely accepted
That's probably not healthy.. I mean you probably know how hard it was to become vegetarian.. now you want your pets to suffer aswell? Let them eat.. they need the protein.
No. I just feed them whatever is in dog food.
Dogs can do well on a vegetarian diet but as far as I know a cat needs to eat meat to be healthy.'
I'll preface this with this: I'm vegan because I'm against factory farming and also because I feel healthier when I eat only plant-based foods, not because I think killing animals for food (humanely) is wrong. Also, I don't have pets right now, although I had many as a child and want to get a dog sometime in the future.

I feel perfectly healthy on a vegan diet, so I follow one. If I didn't feel healthy, I would spend money on expensive meat that is produced humanely, not try to continue to do something unhealthy. To my knowledge, cats cannot be healthy on a vegetarian/vegan diet - they are naturally carnivores. Dogs, on the other hand, are omnivores, and I've heard that they can do fine on a vegetarian diet. I would definitely try to feed my dog a mixed diet - not all meat - but I'd probably also buy meat that I know was produced under humane conditions.

John - humans are naturally omnivorous, just like dogs! Obviously humans can survive on a vegetarian/vegan diet, so that argument is not sufficient or convincing. I'd love to hear
I am a veggie and i feed my cats and dogs on fresh veg rice etc and they love it
