Why do some vegans feed their cats a vegetarian diet?

Even though it's been PROVEN beyond a shadow of a doubt that cats are carnivores and NEED meat in their diet. Why do some vegans feed their cats a vegetarian diet?
Because their cats have agreeable personalities.

Listen "over me yet" just because I feed my cats what they want doesn't make me 'not a vegan'. In fact I'm more of one than you are for doing so. Also I guarantee my tomcat (note correct spelling) is WAY better looking than yours.

Reply: as for 'dogmatic'... you're the dog around here; not me.
It's a personal choice and belief. If they truly believe in animal rights, then they wouldn't want any a to feed their pets meat from animals that have been killed for food. Cornucopia, a vegetarian line of food for animals, promotes a healthy vegetarian diet for cats and dogs. Why do some vegans feed their cats a vegetarian diet?
Because some people are stupid.

EDIT ~ Precious, how is it a personal choice? They are forcing their pets to eat a bad diet, that's not a personal choice. Their pets might become sick and die because they don't want other animals to die? There is no healthy vegetarian diet for cats, regardless of what slick business people try to sell you.
actually there ARE cases in which some cats have shown to be healthy on vegan diets. i agree with you that they are naturally carnivores, but there really isnt enough research on vegan diets for cats to determine whether or not it really is unhealthy for them. read this: http://wayfaringvegans.weebly.com/vegan-鈥?/a>Why do some vegans feed their cats a vegetarian diet?
Because if they ever need to eat the cat, the cat will technically not be made of meat because it was a vegan.
Because people are stupid enough that they'll put their own personal beliefs over the health of their own 'beloved' pet.
Henry you are incorrect. Cat's don't need meat in their diet, they simply need nutrients that are available in meat.

Vegetarian cat foods are available that contain all the nutrients needed to keep a cat healthy, they are fortified with taurine which is a special concern to cats.

I might add that regular cat food also has to be fortified with taurine.

"According to the National Research Council, "Cats require specific nutrients, not specific feedstuffs.""
Veganism is a philosophy opposing commodification of animals.
Vegans do not therefore FUND commodification of animals by buying animal products,
just as vegetarians by definition don't eat meat.

You confuse a "need for meat" with a "need for nutrients which would be obtained through consumption of meat if domesticated animals of any kind ate anything remotely resembling what they would in the wild". My vibrantly-healthy, vegan tom cat of five years, fed nutritionally-fortified pet food, is testament to that fallacy on your part.
