it really helps
I lost 45 pounds in three months last year while still being a Vegetarian. The key is to eat less, move more. Eat the majority of your calories earlier in the day. Eat like a king in the morning, a queen in the afternoon, and a peasant in the evening. Avoid sodas and junk foods. Keep your calories at or above 1400 a day to prevent your body from going into starvation mode.

Definitely you will lose weight in vegetarian diet. All multivitamin is good.
You can lose weight following any healthy diet, vegetarianism is just one option. During the initial switch to vegetarianism, many people lose weight simply by eliminating foods, but this "bonus" rarely lasts as they discover alternatives and eat more of other things. There is a misconception that vegetarianism is an instant weight loss solution, which it most certainly is not.

Activity is important. Sometimes replacing a snack with a walk can stave off hunger and provide some exercise, which is a double bonus, eliminating unnecessary calories and burning some as well.

It would be helpful to know whether you are responsible for your own meals, or on a campus meal plan. Some campuses provide excellent vegetarian options, while some campuses (like the school I went to) seem to think that some combination of noodles and cheese every day qualifies as a nutritious veggie option. Definitely not diet friendly! If you purchase your own food, budget for as many fruits and veggies as you can, and use them as snacks and major parts of your meals. One of my favorite low-budget hunger busters is celery and peanut butter, with about a teaspoon of peanut butter per 4 inch stick of celery. It has lots of fiber and protein, which are both filling nutrients, and PB and celery are pretty darn cheap. Peanut butter is high calorie, but it's an affordable and nutritious food if consumed in moderation (which can be hard, because it's delicious!)

Carbs, unfortunately, are cheap sources of calories. If one is active, they provide necessary energy, but for most people, more than the five or so recommended servings a day is not necessary. Bread and pasta are cheap. More filling, lower calorie veggies can really dent your food budget. Meet your carbohydrate needs with whole grains, which might be slightly more expensive, but are much more filling, and try to add some veggies and protein to every meal. Don't think you need tofu or mock meat at every meal. Whole grains and many other foods add protein to your daily diet. Canned beans are both cheap and nutritious as well, and can be fixed up quite easily with a can of veggies and some seasoning for a one-pot dinner. Recipes for this type of meal can be found with a quick Google.

I could go on for pages, but my last dietary advice is to keep healthy snacks at ready. I remember chowing through whole boxes of crackers while writing papers and too busy to get a real dinner. Have apples, baby carrots, and other snackable, low-cal foods available during stressful times to avoid an inadvertent calorie binge. To add substance, a portioned out tablespoon of peanut butter for dipping can add filling fats and protein which will keep you satisfied longer.

I usually buy store-brand vitamins, so I can't suggest any major brands. However, you should check for iron, calcium, and vitamin B12 in particular when looking for supplements. A healthy, balanced vegetarian diet can provide every necessary nutrient, with the exception of B12, but a budget and convenience conscious vegetarian woman will probably need additional iron and calcium. If there is a natural foods store, like a co op or a Trader Joe's anywhere near you, check them out for vegetarian specific vitamins designed to fill common nutritional deficiencies of veggies. If not, you could probably order some online.

Good luck, and I hope vegetarianism continues to be a fulfilling and healthy choice for you.Can you lose weight on a vegetarian diet? What is a good multivitamin for women?
Nope, it's impossible. See, your body needs meat to flush out fat. If you don't eat meat, it doesn't matter if you eat air and exercise all day, your body will just hold onto the fat.

...Seriously, come on..
