i wanna lose some weight fast and it would be very easy for me to not eat meat for a while considering that i don't like it. if i stopped eating meat for a month and exercised alot (like i already do), would i lose the weight fast?Is it possible to lose weight while going on a vegetarian diet?
Hmm...it's two-sided.
Lots of meats are fatty, like burgers, pork chops, etc.
But some vegetarian meals are surpringly fatty too. Tofu is pretty high in calories and vegetarian things like eggs and beans and cheese (protein substitutes) are high in fat.
My suggestion: eat lean meat like chicken and turkey. And lots of vegetables. Just stay away from pork and beef!Is it possible to lose weight while going on a vegetarian diet?
I dunno I am looking into the raw natural food dietIs it possible to lose weight while going on a vegetarian diet?
There are fat vegetarians too... the people who do sedentary work and take rich food... because the veg foods are also often as nutritious as non veg stuff...
The play of genetics descended from parents could also be there... but you can definitely reduce weight by a PLANNED food regimen... normally more salads (raw vegetables, fruits) in diet could do a lot good..
There are things like "fruit fasting" and the naturopath recommends a particular fruit or combination of fruits to be taken daily (only fruits) for a week or fortnight... and it is said to do wonders... Don't try anything yourself... if there are no qualified naturopaths just include more salads in your diet and avoid hot, spicy, tinned stuff in general...
Plus proper exercises (there are specific exercises for burning excess fat) and a yoga teacher could help excellently.... or if there is no yoga institute nearby, take morning walks (steady, brisk walk swinging your arms rhythmically) that helps you to take deep breaths...
All the best to you.
please understand that you can't just stop eating meat. some vegetables may have a bit of protein but no vegetable has a complete protein. And you HAVE to have complete protein.
For one thing you have what is called the intrinsic factor. It is th factor that allows your body to utilize B12 in meat. If you do not eat meat, chicken and fish do not count, your body can and will stop producing th intrinsic factor . Once it stops producing it you can not make it start again. And you will have to take vitamin b12 shots the rest of your life
The absorption of dietary vitamin B12 occurs in the small intestine and requires a secretion from the stomach known as intrinsic factor. If intrinsic factor is deficient, absorption of vitamin B12 is severely diminished. Vitamin B12 deficiency impairs the body鈥檚 ability to make blood, accelerates blood cell destruction, and damages the nervous system. The result is pernicious anemia (PA). In the classical definition, PA refers only to B12 deficiency anemia caused by a lack of intrinsic factor life.
You also need protein for your muslces, hair and nails. And more.
Point is you need to know what you re doing before you go on a radical diet. See you Doctor for diet suggestions.

Why have I been feeling agitated ever since I started vegetarian diet?
Vegetarian diets do that to you. Partially it's caused by the lack of vitamin B12 and protein in the diet. It affects the mood and brain function. That's one reason why so many vegetarians and vegans are so rude/arrogant and insist on pushing their diets and beliefs onto other people. Why have I been feeling agitated ever since I started vegetarian diet?
There is no scientific or medical reason why lack of meat would make you feel agitated. Had you provided more information such as what kind of vegetarian diet you are following, for how long and what you eat as well as possibly some medical history then I might be able to begin to answer the question. Is it possible that seeing people eat meat around you is the source of that agitation? Have you not been getting enough sleep?
If it's a serious problem see a professional. If you think it's vegetarianism that makes you feel weird see if you can get a nutritionist to explain why.
You're probably just hungry. I get agitated when I'm hungry as well. Most vegetarians don't intake enough protein to really keep them full. There are things you can eat, such as beans, etc, that will help make you fill more full. Why have I been feeling agitated ever since I started vegetarian diet?
Because your angry at yourself for not becoming a vegetarian sooner.
Seriously? The two are unrelated.
Maybe you are in detox from not eating meat? I know it can take 2-4 weeks to clear junk out of your system once you go Vegetarian. Keep on and you will feel better soon and your taste buds will adjust. :) Good Luck! Why have I been feeling agitated ever since I started vegetarian diet?
Have a burger and see if you're still agitated. Really.... :)planet hollywood

How do you think about vegetarian diet. What's its benifit?
I heard that vegan diet can reduce considerablely the amount of released exhaust fumes. Besides, human-being is in the situation of shortage of food, i mean rice, wheat, ... while some countries use them as food of animals. Its sound isn't good. How do you think about changing your diet for a better world? How do you think about vegetarian diet. What's its benifit?
I've been a vegetarian for about 15 years. I feel great, have tons of energy and would recommend this lifestyle change to anyone.
The most popular question is "what do you eat?". It makes me laugh as meat isn't the only food on the planet. People don't seem to realize they eat fruit, veggies, etc, all the time. So do I just without the meat. I make sure I get enough protein by using hemp protein daily. Vegetarianism is a wonderful lifestyle.
I did, years ago and I'm healthy. How do you think about vegetarian diet. What's its benifit?
im a vegan and i love it . people think there not many good vegan food not true . you also can get alot of protein. many farmers markets have vegan food its very healthy. one of the best choices of my life
I became a vegetarian a few years ago, I'm very happy that I did, I feel fantastic! I get checked every year by my doctor to make sure everything is fine (Iron, etc) and everything has been! How do you think about vegetarian diet. What's its benifit?
I am sorry to admit that I have broken my vegetarian ways since becoming pregnant. But I was a dedicated one for two years. I believe it is a great way to help the world and yourself. But for those of us who need the meat to have energy, when vitamin supplements won't help, just simply cutting back on meat consumption is good enough. I think that just eating half of the meat you normally do would help considerably. You might find that going vegetarian or vegan wouldn't be hard for you at all.
"If everyone in North America reduced their animal food consumption by just 10%, the grain we would save from animal feed could be used to feed all the hungry throughtout the world. (EarthSave International) One hundred acres of land will produce enough beef for 20 people but enough wheat to feed 240 people. Poultry operations alone use 96.5 billion gallons of water annually in the US, enough to meet all water needs of 4.5 million North Americans. It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce one pound of meat. If the US meat industry wasn't supported by the taxpayer paying a large proportion of its water costs, then hamburger meat would cost $35 a pound."
and...
"Ten years ago, in Milford, Utah, population 1,164, Circle Four farms raised over 600,000 hogs. The operation generated as much waste as a city of 1.8 million people. There were 2 million residents in al of Utah then. In 1996 this farm waited six weeks to notify the state of a spill of 80,000 hog waste and chemicals."
i think that if you want to change your diet don't change it by becoming a vergertarian its bad for you you're going too be missing out on things like rice and wheat and things like that you don't need too become a vegetarian to loose weight you can do different things and eat differently but not by changing your food and what you eat its very unhealthy to do so you can be happy another way i think changing your diet by becoming a vegetarian is very bad for your health.its doesn't make a better world at all just for that.

Vegetarian diet deficiencies Questions below?
Ten year old Noah has become vegetarian and is a very picky eater. He is willing to eat only whole grains and refuses to eat legumes, seeds, and nuts. The mother wants to support her sons choice but is concerned since meat is a ready source of complete protein.
Questions
Is the mother justified in her fears? As a vegetarian what should Noah's diet include? And what is deficient in Noah's vegetarian diet? What are the repercussions of such deficiencies?Vegetarian diet deficiencies Questions below?
Yes. Whole grains are an incomplete source of protein--they lack one of the essential amino acids (EAA), methionine. Legumes have the needed methionine, but in turn they lack the essential amino acid, lysine, which whole grains have in abundance. If the kid only eats whole grains as his source of proteins, he will put himself into amino acid imbalance. And vice versa if the kid only eats legumes but refuses to eat grains. Since protein synthesis requires adequate amounts of ALL the amino acids in the overall amino acid pool, an imbalance in EAA intake will essentially shut down protein synthesis. And since protein is constantly breaking down, there will not be synthesis of new protein to replace that which is lost through normal wear and tear.
A better diet for this kid would be combining these two sources of protein to yield a better balance of amino acid intake. Together, the grains and legumes would be complementary protein sources.Vegetarian diet deficiencies Questions below?
Me as a vegeterian has years of expieriance in this so here i go :)
Is the mother justified in her fears?
Yes she should be fearfull if he has no source of protein coming in
As a vegetarian what should Noah's diet include?
Quorn is a tofu meat substitute is lovely tastes like meat but is also full of protein try it ;)
And what is deficient in Noah's vegetarian diet?
He needs more proteirn definitely , Perhaps try tofoo as said
What are the repercussions of such deficiencies?
Kwashiorkor means "the displaced child" and occurs in children shortly after weaning, usually between the ages of one and four. It is characterized by growth failure, skin lesions, edema, and changes in hair color -- with red most often seen on children or adults that should have black hair. The liver is also extensively infiltrated with fat.
Marasmus means "withering" and is usually seen at an earlier age than Kwashiorkor. Growth failure is even more severe, but the edema is usually absent. This is often seen in Third World Countries where formula has been encouraged to replace breast milk. Large corporations initially give the formula to a new mother. Later, when she cannot afford to buy it, she weakens it, trying to make it last longer. In addition, because these areas lack available and clean water, bacteria and parasites have found easy targets within weakened systems. Millions of children die each year because of this reason alone.Vegetarian diet deficiencies Questions below?
Someone on such a restricted diet will probably not be getting enough protein, and will definitely not be getting *complete* protein. Whole grains are not especially protein rich, and definitely do not have complete proteins in and of themselves, they need to be accompanied by nuts, seeds, milk, or other protein sources.
Also, there are some vitamins that are most typically found in meat, though at least some of them can be readily obtained from certain yeast-based products such as Vegemite.

What are the benefits to a vegetarian diet?
also, is it ok to drink alcohol or get drunk if you are a vegatarian? may seem like a dumb question, but i figured without something heavy like meat in your something it'll be harder for your body to process the alcoholWhat are the benefits to a vegetarian diet?

You can drink if your a vegetarian, and your body will not notice a difference between being a meat eater or a vegetarian. Getting drunk will still kill 10,000 bain cells. Poor brain cells :-)
BTW: I can drink my meat eating friends under the table, my liver doesn't have meat to deal with, so it goes right to work ridding my body of alcohol.
shelby obviously isnt a nutritional scholar..or even closeWhat are the benefits to a vegetarian diet?
you can't drink as much if you a vegetarian, but its because you kidneys will no longer be able to process all the alcohol because of the lack of protein, or something like that....
.... do you always drink meat before drinking alcohol?
being a vegetarian does not affect you're ability to handle alcohol.
being a vegetarian is almost as good as being vegan.
you can get all your nutrients from a vegetarian diet easily.
.
Non meat sources of protein: Eggs, Milk, soy/tofu, yogurt, cheese, whole wheat breads, lentils, brown rice, kale/leafy veggies, nuts, beans...
*just look out for gelatin, its in most yogurts, marshmallows, starburst, skittles...
non meat sources of iron: brown rice, beans, peas, raisins, spinach..
(which isn't that much less than normal beef and chicken. but you'll probably have more than the serving size anyway.)
and as for b12. "Humans require only about 2-3 micrograms per day... All of vitamin b12 in the world comes from bacteria. Neither plants nor animals can make it. These bacteria are all over the world in the wind, soil, and water. When animals eat particles of soil along with grass or feed, the vitamin ends up in their flesh, milk, and eggs... The best way for vegans to get b12 is through fortified foods such as breakfast cereals, soy or grain beverages, some meat substitutes, and supplements." Students Go Vegan Cookbook by Carole Raymond
ive been vegetarian since i was 12. and i have been drunk several times, with a lott of shots and such and while my 300 pound brother got sick. i did not. could be a coincidence but maybe it helps having a vegetarian diet? lolWhat are the benefits to a vegetarian diet?
If you're considering changing you're diet, you may wish to do it slowly, just in case. Some people's bodies really just can't handle not eating meat. I've had family members who've tried to become vegetarian and their doctors told them to stop because they were getting too weak. Personally, I much prefer not eating meat. I feel much cleaner and healthier. I also drink alcohol without any problem, just remember to not over do it, regardless of your diet. It's very important to make sure that you have alternative ways of getting enough protein, b12 and iron, or else you could get sick.
SAVING ANIMAL LIVES ARE ONE OF THE BENEFITS
a couple of benefits of a vegetarian diet are
you dont eat animals (thats a benefit to me..)
your arteries dont get clogged with fat and grease
your risk for heart disease goes down (a lot)
and as far as the alcohol.. a lot of alcohol is bad for your body reguardless of what you eat with it. (eating meat and drinking is kind of just like a double wammy on your body)
being a vegetarian isn't very good for you because the vitamins and supplements that meat provides your body isn't found in veggies, it's not good for you to change the way you eat after eating meat also cause it's to big of a change for your body and will make you very ill.

Is a vegetarian diet healtheir than a meat eating diet?
Are the reports of increased longevity true?
Thanks. Is a vegetarian diet healtheir than a meat eating diet?
NO DIET IS HEALTHIER....if you eat meat and veg but pig out on junk food its not healthy......if you eat veggies and pig out on junk food its not healthy.....if you eat a well balanced veggie diet it is healthy.....if you eat a well balanced diet of meat and veg then it is healthy.....for example i eat lean organic meats...plenty of fruit and veg...exercise 4 times a week and im in perfect health.....SO it doesnt matter what diet you choose aslong as you dont consume too much fat or sugar and you do plenty of exercise.
yes it is healthier. Is a vegetarian diet healtheir than a meat eating diet?
NO IT IS NOT%26gt;
Although some meats have a high fat count,
in a vego diet you need to take supplements to maintain a healthy balance wich still isnt as good as eating meat. You need iron, fibre etc etc from meat,
STAY A CARNIVORE IF YOU WANT TO LIVE LONG!
yes veg*n is much better for your health, the animals and the planet!

Both diets can be healthy or unhealthy. Depends on if you eat processed, junk food or healthy food. Exercise also increases your life span.
Yea, I think so. There have been several reports about vegetarians living longer, having a higer IQ, being happier, and having TONS of energy.
Someone mentioned vegans not getting enough iron, but that isn't always true. some cerial provides a hefty amount of iron.
I think the longevity is increased, but others may argue.
It depends. Some people who eat meat may be unhealthier depending on how they cook the meat. Some people eat too much fried and baked meats that are full of grease. If a person boils their meat, or bakes their meat on a rack (that drains the grease), they can have a really healthy diet is balanced properly with vegetables, and healthy sides.
You don't have to be a vegetarian to be healthier.
Yes, a vegetarian diet is healthier than a meat based diet, as long as you follow a sensible nutritional well balanced diet.
If vegetarians are listless looking (as per comments by goldenrox) it is because they eat lots of “junk” – (i.e.) unhealthy fats, processed flour and refined sugar products, such as, hot chips, cheese on crackers, bread, pasta, cakes.
On this site alone, I have noticed many teenage vegetarians avoid fresh fruit %26amp; vegetables.
I consume a least five servings of fresh fruit and a least five servings of fresh vegetables, every single day and I certainly don’t look listless. In fact, people keep commenting on how well %26amp; healthy I look.
According to several societies (diabetic society is one) a vegetarian or vegan diet are two of the healthiest on the planet.
There is a DVD out called “A Diet for all Reasons” by Michael Klaper MD. In it he states “There is absolutely no nutrient, no protein, no vitamin, no mineral, that can’t be obtained from plant-based foods”.
The Rave Diet say pretty much the same thing on their “Eating Plus Second Edition” DVD
.
in most cases, yes.Too much red meat can effect the heart. But,red meat also has protein in it.I dont eat red meat but, get the protein i need,i make sure i eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and peanuts.(god i sound like a parent XD)
I was on a more or less meaty/eggy/dairy diet all my life and right now I am dying from Lupus (the autoimmune rheumatic disease). I have tried ALL possible lifestyles to cure my disease, medicaments do not help, Ajurveda does not help, yogurt-diet NO, organic food with lean meat and fish NO, Mediterranean diet (lots of fish) NO, all vegetarian with eggs and milk NO. I get sick this instant after meat, you could put me in a reality show for a laugh, because my face gets all red, but I mean REALLY red, not like flushing, it is like my blood cells would burst any moment and I get rashes all over my face.
Now I am switching to the ONLY lifestyle I did not try, low-fat, low-sugar vegan food (according to this: http://www.lupusrecoverydiet.com/ ). I lost so much time - I could have been perfectly fine and healthy now - and only because too many people scared me off through all those "meat is soo healthy for you" claims!
I am so mad about those silly "meat is healthy" guys. I am almost dead! And my face does NOT get full of rashes if I eat vegetables! People who eat a lot of meat die earlier and are generally more often overweight and more often sick. I am sure about it, since I can watch my body break down after any animal products, while I feel ok or even better eating vegetables and fruits. It's a plain fact.
And if I can stay alive long enough (since my disease is 50% deadly this or that way), I will do everything to become as healthy as possible. Than I will have a page online with lots of photos of me playing basketball and doing skateboard tricks! And show for real what is possible through plain vegetarian food!
Really, I never heard ANY successful healing stories of people who switched to meat and became healthier in the long run. Never! But tons of people who skipped meat and "suddenly" had no cholesterol or reversed Diabetes or healed heart stroke. It is such a plain fact, that fanatic meat eaters become aggressive, because they fear it might affect their life - yes, maybe one day meat eaters will have to pay much higher insurance because of (already now) scientifically proven risks through this lifestyle, or maybe they will get no jobs, who would want sickly people in his company?
NO ... the longest lived people are the Japanese and they are pesco-vegetarians for the most part . . . or the new term: Flexitarian vegetarians.
Also, a report came out that the best cardio diet is the Mediterranean diet because of the fresh veggies, olive oil, nuts, fish and seafood.
A "strict" vegetarian diet is not all that healthy, really.
well come to the world of vegetarian because of you more and more animals will save their lives thanks :)
Proteins: Body's protein needs can be provided by either animal or plant sources. Mixed protein diet obtained from various plant sources is better than animal protein and is recommended in diabetes, renal diseases and liver diseases. Mixed protein diet from different plant sources has been the pattern of diet in India for all vegetarians.
Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are mainly found in plant foods; like cereals, grains, fresh and dry fruits, legumes, vegetable, greens, nuts etc. plant carbohydrates include' large amounts of starches, sugar and fibers which are important for gut functions. The body is better suited to a high carbohydrate diet than a low carbohydrate diet. In fact 55% of the food intake should be carbohydrate. All animal products do not contain carbohydrate which is essential for body.
Fat: Plant fats differ from animal fats in two different ways 1) they are cholesterol free 2) they generally contain more polyunsaturated fat and less saturated fats. Plant fats usually have higher polyunsaturated fat value than animal fats.
A diet which is low in cholesterol and which contains fat of a high PIS value is associated with a lower incident of coronary health disease.
Vitamins and Minerals: plant foods are rich in many vitamins and minerals.
Vitamin D: Vitamin D is obtained by exposure of skin to sun light and this is not a problem in India.
Calcium: The vegetarians can meet their needs for calcium from dairy products. Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Dark green vegetables are good sources of Riboflavin as are legumes and whole grain cereal.
Iron: The problem of iron deficiency is relatively common but vitamin C significantly enhances absorption of iron hence it is advisable for vegetarians to include with each meal a food high in vitamin C which as lime, citrus fruits or juices.
Zinc: Zinc is found in large number of plant foods.
Fiber: Fiber is found only in vegetarian food like whole grain cereals, legumes, greens, fruits, vegetable etc.
Thus in vegetarian foods all requirement of nutrition for body growth and maintenance is fulfilled. One can have a complete and balanced diet provided we take enough food which is as close to nature as possible in maintaining sturdy and disease free body. It is equally helpful in curing many diseases.
ADVANTAGES OF VEGETARIAN DIET:
More %26amp; more evidence is surfacing that directly links a prolonged non- vegetarian diet to diseases as cancers, heart diseases, diabetes, asthma just to name a few.
1. LOGEVITY: Vegetarian can expect to live 4-10 years longer then the non-vegetarians.
" Source: Seventh day Adventists study
2. LESS HEART DISEASE: Because of low fat, saturated fat and cholesterol content of the vegetarian diet the risk of heart disease is lowered. High blood cholesterol levels are associated with increased risk of heart disease.
3. LESS CANCER: Up to 40% of all cancers are diet related. Cancer death rates have been associated with obesity and high fat / low fiber diet. Vitamin A %26amp; C are thought to be protective against colon cancer. Low fat diets protect against prostrate and breast cancer. Indoles, lignans, isoflavones, protease inhibitors which are present in plant foods and shown to be potent anti carcinogens.
4. LESS BOWEL DISEASE: Diverticular disease and appendicitis occur more frequently with low fiber intake as in meat diet.
5. LEES OBESITY %26amp; LESS INCIDENCE OF DIABETES: It is easier to plan a low fat diet for a vegetarian then for a meat eater. The fiber in plant food dilutes the energy %26amp; provides a satisfying meal without all the calories. Diabetes over the age of 40 seems to be related to obesity.
It really depends. There are some vegetarians that just eat a lot of junk foods, and very little fruits, veggies, and nuts, so they would not be healthier than a meat eater at all. There also people who eat meat but eat tons of junk food too...so if you want to be healthy and are willing to eat lots of fruits and veggies, it probably will be healthier to be a vegetarian, as long as you get enough protein and essential nutrients.
NO IT IS NOT%26gt;

Do you feed your pets a vegetarian diet?
No I don't. I have two ferrets, and ferrets are strict carnivores naturally. Our leopard gecko only eats crickets. And the dog eats regular dog food. I might consider switching him to a vegetarian diet, except when I need to get rid of leftovers. My husband the meat eater hates leftovers, and I think throwing meat out is even worse than eating it.Do you feed your pets a vegetarian diet?
no, i can barely afford to feed my family, much the less a special diet for the animals
I feed my pet a vegan diet because he's a rabbit!
Thumper is my bunny. His fave food is raw cabbage! =)Do you feed your pets a vegetarian diet?

No, my dog eats mostly meat, and some vegetables.
No, I have a cat, and he has meat, although I am particular about what he has. I use an ethical company's cat food called Burns, which only use free-range chickens and the food is holistic. I have friends who have happy healthy dogs who are vegetarian!
No we tried , but he only likes meat:(
I have answered this question several times. Yes, I did. My cat was an All American Blue Tabby Persian who lived to be a healthy 17. There are excellent vegetarian foods for cats as well as dogs at the pet shops.
My pet is a German Shepherd dog of six years age weighing 38 kilograms, with excellent growth and health. So far he has never been taken to vet for treatment of any illness. He has been raised on pure vegetarian diet since the time he was 10 weeks old.
